Lake Tekapo New ZealandAs The Last Rays Of Light Pass Over Lake Tekapo
Artist Statement
This painting of Lake Tekapo New Zealand is a very personal painting of mine. I sat on the edge of Lake Tekapo late one afternoon. The day was coming to an end and the sun was behind some clouds and about to set behind the hill on the left.
I sat by the waters edge and waited for around an hour to see if the sun would breakthrough a small gap where I could still see some sky. ![]() As The Last Rays Of Light Pass Over Lake Tekapo /Art Work Medium, Egg Tempera / For sale
Up until that point everything was dull and lifeless. As I waited it got darker and I thought the day was over, I was about to leave, then suddenly I saw a wave of light coming towards me. Everything started to glow and the mountains lit up bright orange and yellow. People came to the waters edge to admire the view. It was stunning! As quickly as the ray of light came, it started to pass. Lake Tekapo New ZealandLake Tekapo is such a beautiful place to stop and visit, The rugged outdoors provide so many things you can do all year round. It is great for skiing, mountain biking, hiking, jet boating plus so much more.Set just on the edge of the lake is The Church Of The Good Shepherd. This lovely old church, which is a landmark of the area, sits just in front of stunning Lake Tekapo with its teal/blue water and snow capped mountains. Tekapo accommodation is fantastic, and it ranges from the camping ground with good access to the lake, all the way to first class hotels, motels all most of them having a good view of Lake Tekapo. There are good number of bars and restaurants providing a good range food along the main street. Neighbouring Lake Tekapo in the Mackenzie Basin are Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook / Aoraki. I have also painted these two locations which are a must see if you are travelling in this area. The Mount John Observatory
The Mount John observatory is an absolute must do. I found it to be a totally mind blowing experience. The night sky is incredibly clear, it is said to be the clearest sky in the southern hemisphere and on the night that I was there the Milky Way stretched from one end of the sky to the other with thousands of stars amongst it. To add to that you get a real education from the tour guide, you really do feel that you are looking beyond the world we live.
